Personality: stubborn, hard-headed, over proud, dignified, over confident, controlling, bossy, short-temperred\compassionate, kind, proper, respectful, knowledgeable, learning-eager
Facial Appearance: has an ovalish, heart shaped head. His dark sort of spiky hair often appears blondish or dark yellow in the sun. When traveling, he often ravels light and forgets a shaving blade so most of the time he has a slight beard, though if it starts to interfere with his work he will simply use one of his killing blades. Dragon Name: Mongol
Dragon Gender: Male
Dragon Color: Silver
Dragon Age: 15 months
Dragon Description: Broad shoulders and back. Strong arms, legs, and wings. Very heavy. Often accidently funny. For Example sometimes when he sleeps he'll roll into an odd position and when he wakes up he'll fall out of it. The levelheaded one of the duo. He's always joking around with other people and Kono. If Kono insults someone, Mongol stays back and covers his tracks with an explanation. He fears for his riders safety and hates to leave his side. This fear often makes him accdidently let certain secrets from his past be let loose. His Rider feels very similar but is much more serious and is hesistant to let his true feelings show. That is why he and his dragon enjoy solo missions more than anything. Like his rider, Kono, Mongol is a daredevl. They have often been known to show off to people that can see them. Their famous trick is when Mongol soars to a huge height and Kono jumps off. Mongol then races him back to the ground while Kono attempts to slow himself. When they get a certain distance apart, Kono slows himself and raises up to cushion his Riders landing in his saddle.
Past History: Born in Dras Leona. Mother died of 'disease' when Kono was 5, his little brother Jared was 2, and his older brother Dante was 8. Dante and Kono knew that their father had been beating her and them since they were old enough to talk. He was a strong believer in Helgrind and offered to all three of its highest peaks on a regular basis. Dante had told Kono he guessed that their mom's 'disease' had taken her to Helgrind. In otherwords the brother guessed their father had killed their mother and sacrificed her to helgrind though they dared not tell their father and could never find any proof.
When Dante was 13 (Kono 10, Jared 7,) Their father entered dante's bedroom and cut off his arm from the elbow down in the dead of night. Somehow he managed to survive and heal. Dante went to Kono and told him that he was leaving to Surda to get away from their father and the empire. He told Kono to come to Dauth when he was ready and to bring Jared with him.
The time came one night when Kono was 14 and Jared was 11. Emphasis on 'was'. That night Kono woke up to screaming. That afternoon Jared had said he hated his father a little to loudly. His father must have over heard beacuse when Kono went to investigate he saw his father with a bloody knife in his hand and his non moving brother in his newly painted (blood red) bed. His father turned and saw Kono and Kono ran for his life to his room. He picked up a rock that he had found the other day that was extra pointy. When his father entered the room Kono chucked the rock and him. The rock hit his father's kneecap and sent the man to the floor.
Kono ran and didn't look back. Somehow making it to Dauth in only a couple of weeks. He had hitched a ride with a caravan leaving Dras Leona for a few days to Belatona until he was discovered and left on the side of the rode. He walked on for a few miles reaching a small town tired and hungry later that day. There he found a compassionate old woman who gave him directions and about a weeks worth of rationed food when he set out again a few days later. The food only lasted 5 days so he had to stop in Feinster on the way and get some more. He found a small bag of coins that had been dropped near the marketplace. With it he bought some more food and a water container for the road. He set off again and ran out about 3 days just a few miles past the border. He managed to make his way to Dauth on only his will power... and the fact he was only a day away.
His brother was in the inn when he heard the commotion and ran to the square to see his younger brother cold thirsty hungry and tired surrounded by a dozen and a half of the other townspeople all wondering who he was and keeping their distance. Kono got some rest in Dante's room and ate til his heart's content before he told his brother of Jared. It was the first time they had seen each other in almost 4 years and it had been marked by the bringing of this bad news.
It took weeks for them to return to their somewhat normal selves. Dante introduced him to the rest of the townspeople and soon he was a familiar face. Everyone knew him, trusted him, and welcomed him. Dante then told him that h would be joining the Surdan army in less than a year. Kono and he made an agreement that they would both save up to build a home in Dauth. Kono doing odd jobs around the town and Dante getting free teaching in fighting for the next three years. Kono promised to join the army when he came to age and Dante promised to do his best to teach Kono how to fight until then. Unfortunately Dante and his one arm wasn't the best teacher so Kono olny got crash courses in medicine and herbs, stealth, military strategy, interrogation, and survival but no fighting.
Finally in three years almost to the day the had built their new home. It had three bedrooms and in the backyard was their own personal training yard. They had their own small practice armory of swords and and other weapons. They had five bales for archery practice for when Kono joined up, an almost exact replica of the army's obstacle course with a few added twists, about 20 dummies in varied amounts of armor for sword practice, and a 25x25 foot training platform for sparring.
Then Kono joined the army too. Kono relearned all the information his brother taught him and excelled to the front of his class. Finally he learned to fight. Hand to hand combat, sword, archery, staff, and a few other minor courses Kono volunteered for were all learned. Soon Kono was a very experienced officer and if it wasn't for his disrespect towards his old officers who, in his opinion, didn't have a hope of beating him if he used nothing except head butts, would be almost as high a rank as his brother.
Then the battle of the burning plains arrived. Kono was 26 and Dante had recently turned 30. They fought side by side on the front lines. They fought together watching each other's backs. between the two of them they must have killed at least 30 or 40 soldiers. Then they heard a dragon's roar and looked up to see two dragons flying off a raised plateau. It distracted both of them but when Kono turned he saw a man in the empire's armor and uniform looking frightened and confused holding a bloody sword. Kono looked down and his brother in a heap on the floor, a fresh cut straight down his spine. He fell to the ground and grabbed his brother.
He shook him and tried to wake him but he was already dead. Blind with hate, anger, and grief Kono slaughtered the man and all others around him. He didn't care who he attacked just as long as others felt his pain and saw their friends and family fall. Later after the battle he learned that accidentily he had been responsible for the deaths of five Surdan soldiers. Kono himself could not recall doing anything of the sort but then again he couldn't recall anything after seeing the man who had killed his brother's face until the empire retreated.
He was dishonorably discharged and for weeks he lived in a slump in Dauth barely leaving the house. All he did was train, eat, sleep, and train. Until the local butcher ran to his home and informed him that the varden was calling all able warriors to Aberon for an inmportant mission. Kono refused.... at first and then he convinced himself that the varden was not Surda.
Introduction: He made his way to the city capital and found himself at a huge warehouse. A huge empty warehouse.... full of people. When he arrived there were dozens and dozens of high ranking Surdan officers controlling the line so that the most amount of people could be fit in at a time. He waited for hours upon ours in that line, and when he finally reached the front of the line he had to answer a series of... questions.
"Name"
"Kono Slaker"
"Age"
"26"
"What is your opinion of Galbatorix's rule?"
"What rule? That oaf will never control me."
"Would you pledge your allegiance to the varden?"
"Depends on my reason."
"Answer the question."
"Yes."
"Do you have a spouse?"
"Excuse me?"
"Answer the question sir."
"No."
"Girlfriend?"
"No."
"Boyfriend?"
"WHAT? No!"
"Any friends or family that you would be unable to leave for long periods of time?"
"no."
"Do you have anything against the Varden."
"No."
"Do you have anything against the Varden's current home."
Kono hesistated with this one. After a few seconds, He said "No."
The questioner wrote something he couldn't see down. "Do you have anything to hide from the Varden, or Surda?"
"No."
"Would you sumbit to a mind check; an elaborate sweep of all your distant past and recent past memories and thoughts?"
"No. I have nothing to hide. Should I?"
"That is for.... her to decide. Right through here please." The questioner led him around a corner, down a hall and into the 4th room on the right. As he left he saw a new person take her seat and a new man take his place. Now in the room he saw two chairs. one made of hard wood and one expertly crafted. He was told to sit in the one made of hardwood. The questioner left the room after informing him that she would be with him soon.
Minutes later, an old woman walked in placed her hand on his forehead and told him to sit still and relax. Seconds later a slight stinging feeling went through his entire mind as he painfully recalled his every memory. Finding out his mother would never com home again. His brother telling him that he was leaving. The crazy smile of his father holding a bloody knife. Crawling into Dauth dehidrated and weak. Holding his brother's dead body. Slaughtering the scared man and all others around him. Being dishonorably dischagred.
"We are finished here. You have passed follow me." the women said when she had finished. She stood up and left the room. Kono followed slowly holding his vibrating head in his hand and trying to see straight and follow the woman. He walked down the hall and passed two doors... or was it five... he couldn't tell. He was lead into a large room in the back and when he regained alertness he found himself surrounded by..... people. There were dozens upon dozens upon dozens of elves, but only a fraction of that amount of humans.
There they were given food, sleeping arrangements, and shelter for a few days. Then Nasuada herself walked into the room and told them. "You were kept here for one reason. You are allied to the Varden and have nothing to hide. Now for the reason you were sent here. The Varden is currently in possesion of.... new... weapons. You were questioned about your loyalties, your personal life, and your past. Now I am hear to tell you why. But before I do I would like to point out that what I am about to tell you must remain in this room until I announce it to the country. This information is confidential and dangerous. If you are picked you will have to swear fealty to me and the Varden. You will be put into places of extreme danger and challenge. But you will be physically and mentally bettered for life. Are there any of you who are not willing to pledge your life to our cause no matter where I send you?" Nobody in her audience moved. "So there are none of you that would hesistate if you are chosen and I order you to attack Galbatorix himself? This is the kind of danger that I speak. If you can't handle it, leave now." Silence for a few seconds and little by little around a third of the men and women in the room stood up and walked out the door.
Nasuada waited for almost three minutes before resuming. "Good. Now we are at an understanding. The Varden has come into posession of 4 dragon eggs. Each of you will have an hour will each egg until all of you have had a chance with each one. You will be watched for a response to it. Once you are finished wish all four eggs, if none hatch for you, you will be taken from the room and told a phrase that you must say that will prevent you from telling anyone of what you see or here from when you walked in that door days ago. Until it is your turn you will not be permitted to leave. We have plenty of food here for you until your time comes. Good luck."
Kono waited for months. Evidently there must have been other rooms because it would occasionally be days before someone would enter and call out a name. Then it came to his turn. He was taken through a series of hallways blindfolded and was led to a room. Two muscular guards opened the door shoved him into the room. He waited for an hour and nothing happened. They took him to the next room, one door down. Again nothing happened. Finally they took him to the final room, he guessed that meant that one had already hatched. This one he felt a connection with. It was bright silver with black and white streaks coursing through it. The egg was the size of a large rock. It weighed no more than 2 to 5 lbs. At about 45 minutes he felt a PING! in his head and yelled out, "I thought I passed the mind screen! Whose digging around up there now."
Five days later he was a rider and 15 months after that he was being screened by Serth Vyou, the leader of the Du Edoc'sil, an organization of elite warriors dedicated to the cause of the Varden, and Aranel Elensar the new leader of the Varden after Nasuada's passing. He was applying to join the Du Edoc'sil and they had finally agreed to meet him. Half an hour later, Serth stood to his full heighth, wings foled on his back, and extended a hand. "Welcome to Du Edoc'sil, Mr. Slaker finiarel." Kono reached out and shook the Kreeshone's hand. It was good to be back in action.
