Dragon Age: 8 months
Dragon Description: Arris is a pearly white dragon. She is very mentally strong and swift, and has allot of muscle. She has white teeth, horns, and claws. Her scales glisten and shine in the sun, almost to the point of you having to look away at how bright she is.
Past: Carla was raised by her mother, Rasana, who worked in Kuasta. They couldn’t afford to live in the city, so they lived in a small village out side the city walls. The village had about 15 people in it total. When Carla was born, the villagers disapproved of her for not having a father. Then, when Carla was 5, she showed her first sign of magic. She made a pebble lift up, then fall. The villagers feared her and wanted to shun Carla and her mother. Rasana convinced them to let them stay if she punished the child every time she did any kind of magic, and kept the child indoors while there was anybody else outside. There was one villager who thought of Carla’s magic abilities as a gift, not a curse. She watched over Carla while Rasana worked. That villager slowly, but surely, taught Carla how to read. Then, when Carla was 11, the village still hated her, and viewed her beauty with fear. When she went into town for the first time, and snook into a top-secret library with shipping records. She started reading the titles, and they were books about times before Galbatorix took over Alagaesia. Then there was one that had a word she wasn’t quite sure of. She took it, then snook out, starting to hear guards’ voices.
When she got back to her small house, she tried to read the book. There was words that she could read, such as fire, stop, master, and break. But then underneath each of those words was words such as brisingr, blothr, ebrithil, and jierda. She tried sounding the new words out, as she had been told to do with word she couldn’t read or didn’t know yet. But when she sounded out Jierda, her pencil broke that was in her hand. She suddenly felt weak. She hid the book in her closet, then went to bed. She didn’t know what happened. She knew she had special abilities, but never had she seen something so direct happen! She fell asleep. When she awoke, it appeared as if nothing had changed only the sun was just rising. She felt better. Then something struck her, the book! She went and got it. She started to read other unknown words. She could only do one a day. But then, after a couple weeks, she started to realize that the word did what the word above it said. Everyday she got less and less tired after doing one spell a day, so soon she could do 2, then 3, then 4. She kept practicing everyday until she became upsest with it. But she wanted more words, the same ones over and over were getting old. She had to find out more.
When Carla was 15, she could easily do many of those spells a day, and with Jierda, she could break a log in half, not just a pencil, and not be to tired. She could probably break 3 or 4 logs before having to rest. She told Rasana of her abilities and how she practiced them. Rasana got so mad and upset, she told Carla that she’d best leave, and never come back. She went into the other room, then came back with a long, thin swords in its sheath. She handed it to Carla. “I love you Carla, but the village won’t accept you. You have to leave. But here is a wonderfully crafted sword, made by the your great great grand father. Treasure it, for it is the only thing of your inheritance. You can sleep here tonight, but I expect you gone by morning” She kissed Carla, who was now crying, on the forehead, then hugged her. She turned and left. Carla went back to her room, got her messenger bag, put the book in it, some paper, pencils, a map of Alagaesia, then went t bed. When she woke up, her mother was still sleeping. She got some fresh water and bread, put it in her messenger bag, and left. She started walking, until she got to Kuasta. She went to town square and saw some stables. She went in there and acted like she lost her cat, and if they could go check on the second story of the barn for her, it would be really great. So the stables master went, and while he was up there, Carla hoped on the nearest saddled horse, which was a grey and white horse, and rode out of the barn. People started screaming, but she was already cantering out of Kuasta. She turned and looked back at her small village. A single tear rolled down her cheek, but she had to ride on.
Introduction: Carla rode on, wiping the tear with one hand while holding the reins with the other. She kicked the horse, wanting it to go faster. She didn’t know where she was going, but she was headed south. She stopped. ‘Argh! The spines in the way. Well, we’ll have to cross it, I’m not going back.’ Carla thought to herself. She was so mad at her mom, she couldn’t stand it.
“I think I’ve rode you before.” Carla said to the horse. She had gone to the stables once every month or so and begged to ride a horse. She made camp, gave the horse some bread and let it have some water. Then she slept for a couple hours. When she awoke it was still dark, but she had to ride on. She got on her horse and rode on. By the end of the day, she had reached the spine. She slowed the horse to a trot and started going to woods, searching for clear paths to make it easier for the horse. She trotted on for another couple of hours, then had to rest. She made camp under a big pine, then started looking for a deer. She couldn’t find anything, and had nothing to kill one with anyway.
‘Wait. Could I use magic to kill something?’ She asked herself. She looked up at a raven. “Jierda!” She exclaimed. There was a cracking noise, then the bird fell to the ground with a small THUD. She made a fire and cooked it, then ate it. It was better then what meat she had back at the village. She gave the horse a couple more pieces of bread, then water, then fell asleep. When she awoke, she realized that she had overslept. The horse was sleeping on the other side of her little camp, but it was dark out. That meant she had slept through the whole day.
‘Well, at least it’s dark, not that there was anyone to find me in the Spine anyways.’ She came to the end of the spine. She looked at her map. “Well, if I go east I will come to Leona lake, and then can refill my water supplies. If I go south-east I will come to Belatona, but my water supplies aren’t low. So maybe I could make it straight to Feinster without running out of water?” she told herself, wanting to hear her own voice. So on she rode to Feinster, only stopping once before it, resting for 2 hours and stopping occasionally for food and water. When she made it to Feinster, she stole bread and refilled all her water jugs, then set off, figuring she’d go to Surda. That seems to be where all the rebels, abandoned, or wanted people go. She followed the Jiet River until she came to the border. There was no one watching it, so she rode on through, She stopped, fed herself and her horse, then rode on, figuring that she’d go to Aberon. Dauth was to out of the way to stop there, so again she relied o hope and luck to last her to Aberon.
There was a small village with a small market where the sea juts into Surda, so she stole what she needed and rode to Aberon. It took her three days to get there, riding slower then she had been. She wanted to sleep. And eat anything other then dead birds or squirrels. The horse was going to die if she didn’t lighten up on it. So when she finally got to Aberon, she begged to have a room. The innkeeper gave her his cheapest room, but it was still better then sleeping outside. She fell on the bed and immediately fell asleep. When she awoke, she noticed she felt all rested. She washed in the wash basin the room had, then left. The innkeep told her that she should check out the big building, because there is somthing going on there and it might be worth her time. She left her horse picketed there, then walked over to the big building in the middle of the city. Carla went inside and found a very long line. But she waited, figuring that other people are doing it to, so it must be worth the time. It took about three and a half hours to get to the front. When there she was asked some questions about herself.
“Carla Dae, 15, just came to Surda, looking for a new life. I have nothing against the Empire, but I have seen little. I have heard of the cruel things Galbatorix does to people and would like if he was overthrown. He was writing all this down.
“Please proceed to the next room, Carla.” The guard looked up and smiled at her. She was used to these looks from men. She just walked on. Now she was in this plain room with white walls, and a table and a chair, and on the other side of the table a woman sitting down in a second chair.
“Sit.” The woman said. “I have to scan your mind. Will you let me?” She asked.
“Ok,” Carla replied, not knowing exactly what she meant. Then there was a sharp pain, and all her memories flashed through her mind. She saw her mother. She missed and hated Rasana at the same time.
“Ok, your done. Move on.” she pointed to a door. Carla went through it, then was in a huge room with many people. She sat down. Then, This woman came in. She had dark hair and dark skin. She acted like she was royalty or something. Everyone started bowing. She looked around, and bowed to, to fit in. That was when she noticed the elves and dwarves. The elves were so pretty, and the dwarves so grungy. Then the Lady started talking.
"Rise. You are here because you are worthy, able-bodied warriors. You have also have been called here because you are all against the Empire and wish to over throw Galbatorix. Now for the true reason you have all been gathered here. During our last scuffle with the empire, an exploration team discovered 20 new dragon eggs without parents. We brought them here over the last week. Those of you who bowed to me look around at those who stayed seated. around you are Dwarves and Elves. Each with the same requirements you had. you will each be given an hour alone with each egg to see if any respond. If none respond to you and you do not become a dragon rider you are now required to keep this a secret until I reveal it to the rest of the Varden. When you are ready you will be sent to Du Weldenvarden 2-5 at a time. Good luck. For now you will remain here until your day comes with the dragon eggs. have a good night's rest. some of you will be called on tomorrow." The lady said.
'Dragons!' Carla said to herself, getting excited. ‘Well, I wasn’t chosen, but I rode from Kuasta to here in a little over a week, that’s got to count for something!’ She thought. She waited, day after day, wondering about the poor horse, her not-so-mother-like-mother, and the village. She found herself a little private area and secretly practiced her magic. She then started to play around with the sword Rasana gave her. She got in some good training, but what else was there to do. So all day every day for almost 3 months, all Carla did was train her magic and with her sword. Finally she was called upon. She went inside and tested with all the eggs. When she got to her seventh egg, a bright orange egg with white lines across it, she felt something in her mind. It was touching her consciousness, like a cat rubs your leg. The guards noticed and took her into a back room. There, the egg started cracking, then out came a small, cute, pearl white baby dragon.
“Aww!” She said. She touched it’s head and felt a rush of pain go through her right arm and her palm felt like it was on fire. The pain slowly sub-sided, but there was a silver oval on her palm. She was then issued into a room. She sat there for hours, wonder what was wrong. But, she sat there with her dragon, who she loved more then anything. So finally, she took her dragon with both hands and went through a door in the wall, which led outside. She then ran with her baby dragon to the hotel. She killed a bird with magic, which she noticed that she could have used more magic then she could without the dragon. then cut it apart with a dagger, and cooked it over a fire outside the room. She then fed the bird to the dragon. She did this daily for a while. Then she would practice magic and practice with her sword. Then feed the dragon more. Finally, it could say ‘Carla’ to her in her consciousness, so she started to talk back to her through consciousness. She told it everything that happened. Finally, Carla thought it was time for a name. She went through a list of names, but the dragon wanted to be named Arris. Finally after a couple of weeks, it could fly, walk, and talk basic words. She would sneak it out of the hotel and take it our away from the city a little to practice flying and hunting. After a couple more weeks, the dragon was hard to hide. So Carla was wondering what to do.
‘You hatch for me, then they put me in a room, and then forget about me! Us!’ she told Arris.
‘Well, lets see if we can’t find another person chosen as a Rider.’ Arris told her. Finally she went to the guards and asked them what to do. They scolded her for running, they were very afraid, but knew you would come back. They told her to do the same things she’s been doing, but that it’s okay if Arris is seen, just don’t flaunt her, or else people will get rowdy. And that when Arris is 9 months old, she will go to Ellesmera for training.
‘Your so big. I remember when you were just a baby!’ Carla told Arris. Arris was about 3 feet tall. So life went on, train, feed, train, feed, just waiting to go to Ellesmera and receive training.
‘But then after that, then what? I have no beliefs, I have no true hate for Galbatorix, and I have no true love for the Varden.’ Carla told Arris.
‘We’ll figure something out.’
